Leopards Go Mudding; Run All Over Champion

The Liberty Leopards rebounded from their second defeat of the season on the heels of a monster second half to defeat Champion on the road last night, 45-7.

The Leopards got on the board first on its opening possession as junior signal caller Migel Burgess took a QB keeper 50 yards to the house.

Liberty would take a 12-0 as Jalen McKinney plowed into the end zone early in the second quarter from a yard out as the senior would finish with 93 yards on 15 carries.

Champion would keep the game interesting heading into the locker room as Nick Stahlman found Brandon Dykes wide open deep on the final play of the half for a 37-yard touchdown hookup to cut the Leopard lead to 12-7.

Following a spectacular lights out halftime performance by the Champion High School Marching Band, Liberty would turn the lights out on any chance Champion had to walk away victorious as they would score 33 unanswered points en route to the 45-7 victory.

The Leopards, who finished with 472 yards rushing in wet and muddy conditions improved to 5-2 on the year.

Leading the Liberty ground attack was Burgess who finished with 288 yards with 3 touchdowns on 15 carries.

Senior Zach Coman led a stout Leopard defense that only allowed 189 yards of offense from the Golden Flashes with 10 tackles as junior Simi Moananu chipped in with 6 solo tackles.

Liberty, who improved to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in AAC Blue play will host the Jefferson Area Falcons next Thursday at Leopard Stadium.

Kickoff between the Leopards and Falcons is set for 7:00 PM.
